Segovia discovered a new form of entertainment. She likes to get going really fast in her walker, then she lifts up her feet and enjoys the ride. Like a scooter. I love watching her discover things. She claps her hands now, and plays peek-a-boo by scooting behind a chair then when I say "where is Segovia?" she pops out of her hiding place. At first it was hard for me to get into "playing". I was only into adult things, but now I like to sit and make silly noises with her. She is in a super fun stage where you can teach her all sorts of tricks. Like I just taught her how to "high 5" right this second. What else should I teach her? Any ideas?

After weeks of intensive traing courses with Saraí and her mother, Segovia has finally learned to crawl! Video footage soon.

Sego has a new video called "corre" at her vimeo site. Click here to see it. We are working on a video of her dancing.

The thing Segovia likes most is music and this just seems to get stronger. She asks for it first thing in the morning by shaking her arm (her signature dance move) and saying "uh, uh". When I put it on she gets a huge smile and dances. She likes the music to be loud, alegre, and seems to prefer latin rhythms, especially cuban salsa. Right now her favorite song is Luz del Ritmo by los Fabulosos Cadillacs. You can listen to it here. Be sure to listen to it loud.

So, we had another baby party, and it appears that my suspicions about Sego having a devious streak might be valid. One of the other babies, Charlie, was playing with Sego's ball popper. Sego apparently wanted it back so she went WWF on him. Hooking one hand in his mouth and the other around his chest, she slammed him to the ground. Poor Charlie screamed bloody murder, and his mother had to cluck and coo until he calmed down. Sego, meanwhile, looked tickled with her handiwork. She looked downright pleased. While I wish I could blame this entirely on her father (who is undoubtedly devious), I know I have my evil side too.
Other news from the baby conference: After consulting the other moms, it seems Sego's fascination with music seems to be peculiar to her. She LOVES music. Any time she hears it she does an adorable little sego dance. Since she was a tiny baby, like 6 weeks, when I would nurse her with music on, she would stop nursing any time the song stopped and wait to see what the next song was. Now when the music stops she protests loudly until I put it back on. She asks for music by looking in the direction of the speakers and saying "uh, uh". The other moms all witnessed this behavior and said that their babies have not expressed any particular interest in music. The conclusion I keep coming back to is that Sego is the cutest, greatest, smartest, best baby in the universe.

Sego and her doll reunited

Segovia has one of those walker things and just this week she learned how to use it. She used to only be able to scoot a few inches backwards, but now she is a pro. I've set up obstacle courses with the living room furniture, her playpen, the fan, water bottles, and she steers through. When I call her from across the room, she comes racing over, overjoyed with her new driving skills. And she follows me, always wondering what I am up to. One thing is certain: it is definitely time to baby proof the house.

Segovia had her "baby play date" yesterday. The moms talk about their babies´achievements while their babies roll around in a pile of toys on the floor. Segovia loves it. She likes to try out the new toys and watch the other babies. It is the only time she prefers not to be held. For me it is interesting to hear how the other babies are developing. I also study Segovia and the other babies to see where she is the same and where she is different. Segovia is the second oldest in the group but is the only one who isn´t crawling. She does adorable little flippy roles, which seem to work perfectly well for her. In the meantime, Sego has been developing her mental powers. She started saying "mama" at 6 and a half months, something the 10 month old just picked up. She seems more introverted than the other babies; she observes and listens more than she interacts. Many people have commented on how she seems to sense when you are talking about her, even when you don´t say her name. Also, if anyone in the room laughs, she laughs along heartily. Two other things she does that the others don´t do--she dances, and she gives kisses. She is also about a hundred times sweeter and cuter than any other baby on the planet. I had some observations about the moms too. Maybe I´ll tell you about them sometime. Right now, I´m late for school. Peace out from me and Segovia.
